How to deal with cavities

Cavities are often painless. The pain generally arises only when the cavities in the teeth become enlarged, affect nerves, or cause teeth to break. Cavities can also occur after consuming cold or hot food or drinks. There are several ways doctors can do to cope with the pain of cavities, including:
  • Give fluoride

  • If the holes in the teeth are still in the initial stages, aka very small, fluoride might be used as a solution to help restore damaged tooth enamel. You do this by rubbing liquid fluoride type, foam, gel, or varnish to the teeth for several minutes. Now almost all toothpastes already contain fluoride, so this treatment is becoming more practical.

  • Make a dental crown

  • For more severe tooth decay or brittle teeth, the doctor will probably make a dental crown to replace all the natural crowns. This artificial crown can be made of gold, porcelain, resin, melted metal porcelain, or other materials.
  • Root canal treatment

  • Root canal treatment is needed if the decay has reached the inside of the tooth (pulp) or a nerve that has died. This treatment is done by removing the nerve tissue, blood vessel tissue, and any rotten areas after cleaning, the dentist can make patches or give a crown, so the teeth do not need to be pulled.
  • Tooth extraction

  • Tooth extraction is done if decay in the tooth is so severe that it cannot be recovered and must be removed. A tooth extracted will leave a space or gap that allows other teeth to shift. Therefore, if possible, it is advisable to make a bridge or a series of dentures to replace the extracted teeth.
To prevent cavities, it is important to take care of your dental health by making it a habit to clean your teeth after eating, eat healthy foods, and do regular dental examinations.
